Faux Brand Portfolio
By Vic Villegas

I made this faux brand portfolio for one of my classes at FIDM - Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. My theme and inspiration was temptation.
Temptation is a collection inspired by the conceptualization of temptation and how temptation manifests itself in various forms. From the plethora of veils in which temptation is occult, I chose to focus on the world, flesh, and the devil.
The “world” of temptation encompasses the indifference and opposition to God’s design, which I interpreted as loss of innocence through the introduction of original sin and obstinance, leading to transformation. I felt this was renditioned through the story of the garden of eden, which I used to personify the “world” of temptation in my designs through the use of biblical references.
Temptation in the “flesh” highlights our corrupt inclinations and disordered passions such as gluttony, sexual immorality, and selfishness. I felt this concept resonated with the notorious Hollywood maxim: “sex, drugs, and rock and roll”, drawing inspiration from Hollywood culture and celebrity, infamous for its fixation on the instant gratification derived from vanity, capitalism, the ego, and the glamorization of vices in the media.
The “devil” of temptation manifests itself all around us in the root of desire. There are many catalysts for temptation, both material and emotional. To conceptualize “the devil”, I decided to focus on the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth and how material temptations evolve from these emotional catalysts.
